Sergei Mikhailovich Tretyakov (1892-1937) was a prominent figure in Soviet Russian constructivism, celebrated for his roles as a writer, playwright, poet, and journalist. Born in what is now Latvia, Tretyakov graduated from Moscow University and emerged as a key voice in avant-garde and futurist movements. He co-founded the influential journals LEF and Novyi LEF with Vladimir Mayakovsky, advocating for a radical transformation of art to reflect Bolshevik principles. His notable works include the plays "Earth Rampant" and "Gas Masks," directed by giants Vsevolod Meyerhold and Sergei Eisenstein, respectively. His career was tragically cut short during the Great Purge, leading to his arrest and death in 1937, though his legacy was later rehabilitated and celebrated posthumously. Tretyakov's contributions to literature and theater continue to be studied for their innovative and revolutionary content.
