The Kukryniksy, a celebrated trio of Soviet caricaturists—Mikhail Kupriyanov, Porfiri Krylov, and Nikolai Sokolov—gained renown for their sharp political and satirical art. Meeting at Moscow's VKhUTEMAS in the early 1920s, they soon began their collaborative work, achieving fame during the 1930s through their contributions to the satirical magazine "Krokodil." Their poignant critiques of fascism, notably targeting figures like Hitler and Mussolini, earned them international recognition. During WWII, they significantly impacted Soviet propaganda with their TASS Windows cartoons and posters. Post-war, they continued to address Cold War themes, while also illustrating works by prominent literary figures and engaging in painting, particularly in Socialist Realism. Awarded the title People's Artists of the USSR in 1958, Kukryniksy's legacy encompasses over a thousand works, reflecting a rich blend of political insight and artistic skill.
