This publication emerged from a displaced persons (DP) camp created for Ukrainian refugees following World War II. These camps served as crucial cultural and educational hubs, nurturing intellectual and literary endeavors across various disciplines, including history, literature, and education. Likely serving as a cornerstone in preserving Ukrainian culture and identity amidst displacement and uncertainty, this specific publication offered valuable resources and insights to the displaced community, ensuring the continuity of Ukrainian heritage during challenging times.

Volodymyr Radzykevych (1886–1966) was a distinguished Ukrainian educator, scholar, and writer. Radzykevych played a pivotal role in establishing and teaching at the Second Ukrainian Gymnasium in Lviv during 1941–1944, and later instructed at various gymnasiums in displaced persons camps in Germany from 1945 to 1950. Actively engaged in educational and literary circles, he contributed significantly to organizations like the Shevchenko Scientific Society and the Association of Ukrainian Writers for Young People in Cleveland. Writing under the pseudonym Vuiko Vlodko, Radzykevych penned poems, plays, and beloved historical tales for children, notably the widely acclaimed "The Adventures of Curly-Haired Yurchyk." His scholarly endeavors included articles for Zapysky Naukovoho tovarystva im. Shevchenka and a monograph on Pavlyn Svientsitsky. However, his most enduring legacy remains his seminal work, "History of Ukrainian Literature," first published in Lviv in 1922 and subsequently reissued multiple times in Lviv, Germany, and the United States from 1947 to 1956.
