Volodymyr Zenonovych Gzhytsky (1895–1973) was a Ukrainian writer, publicist, translator, and memoirist, known for his vivid storytelling and unique perspective on life. He was a member of the Union of Peasant Writers "Plough" and tragically fell victim to Stalinist repression. In 1928, Gzhytsky joined a film-writing expedition led by O. Dovzhenko to Altai, where he delved into the lives of the Oirats. The outcome of this journey was his acclaimed novel "The Black Lake" (1929), which earned him recognition across the Soviet Union.
