This collection features stories by Fedor Dudko, including the following works, "The White Queen," "Grandfather Yakiv," "Sister Lyudmila," and "Blizzard." Central to these narratives is the national revolution of 1917–1920, particularly focusing on the events of the First Winter Campaign. In "Blizzard," Dudko portrays the unwavering commitment of the participants in the Winter Campaign and their steadfast support from local communities. The protagonist, while on a mission, is ambushed by Bolshevik forces, only to be rescued by the young son of a local landowner. Amidst ensuing battles and betrayals, ordinary villagers rally to aid the protagonist, nursing him back to health. Thanks to the care of the landowner's daughter, the protagonist eventually recuperates and rejoins the army.

Fedor Dudko (1885-1962) was a Ukrainian writer and journalist known by several pseudonyms, including Odud, Karpenko, F. Dudko-Karpenko, Tryfon, and Chugaister. During the era of the Ukrainian National Republic (UNR), he worked in the Ministry of Land Affairs before relocating to Lviv, where he contributed to the library of the Scientific Society named after Shevchenko. After facing unemployment due to staff reductions, Dudko worked for newspapers in Lublin and Kraków, including the Kraków News, and served as an editor for publications such as "Our Word" in Berest and "Pinska Pravda" in Pinsk. Upon emigrating to Germany in 1944, he collaborated with magazines such as "Church and Life" and "Holos," despite enduring imprisonment by the Gestapo, from which he narrowly escaped. After arriving in the United States in 1949, he continued his literary pursuits, eventually editing the magazine "Samopomich."
