[Kyiv]: [1989]. All plates are in pristine condition, with their vivid colors fully preserved. However, the folder exhibits minor signs of soiling and wear along its edges. Item #784

This collection represents a rare assemblage of 25 large-format linocuts, housed in the original publisher's folder, commemorating the 175th birth anniversary of the revered Ukrainian poet and iconic figure in literature and art, Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko, also known as Kobzar.

The project was a collaborative effort of 24 eminent Soviet Ukrainian artists, including notable names such as Chebanyk V., Ivakhnenko O., Popov M., Skubyra V., Ovchynnikova O., Novikovsky V., Bohdanets M., Perevalsky V., Hordiichuk V., Bazylevych A., Lopata V., Chebykin A., Tokariev A., Kompanets M., Hubariev O., Zubkovsky H., Krvavych A., Lysenko O., Ulianova V., Panfilov V., Ivanova L., Kharkova Ie., Rubashov Iu., Movchan I.. Additionally, a bonus plate (no.25,) signed V. P., complements the collection.

Each linocut bears the signature of its respective artist, adding a personal touch to every piece. Every plate within the collection measures 21.5 x 17.5 inches (55 x 44 cm), showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail in these linocuts.

The collection stands out for its artistic excellence and the rarity of having such a large group of artists contributing to a single theme. The linocuts reflect a diverse range of styles and interpretations, paying a fitting tribute to Shevchenko's legacy.

Shevchenko, a central figure in Ukrainian culture, is celebrated for his contributions to literature and art. This collection, released in 1989, coincides with significant historical moments in Ukrainian history, adding layers of meaning to the artworks.

Published in limited numbers, this collection's rarity is underscored by the absence of recent sales and the lack of institutional copies in OCLC databases as of January 2024.

This collection not only stands as a testament to Taras Shevchenko's enduring influence but also serves as a remarkable example of collaborative artistic expression in Soviet Ukraine. Its scarcity and cultural significance make it a prized possession for collectors and enthusiasts of Ukrainian art and history.
