"The Peasant War in Germany" , authored by Friedrich Engels, is a concise historical account of the early-16th-century rebellions, collectively known as the German Peasants' War (1524–1525). Engels wrote this work in London during the summer of 1850, in the aftermath of the 1848–1849 revolutionary uprisings. The book draws parallels between these uprisings and the events of the 16th century. Engels observes in his writing, "Three centuries have flown by since then, and many a thing has changed; still the peasant war is not as far removed from our present-day struggles as it would seem, and the opponents we have to encounter remain essentially the same." This statement reflects his view on the continuity and similarity of social struggles across different eras.
