Oleksandr Oles, born Oleksandr Ivanovych Kandyba (1878–1944), was a distinguished Ukrainian writer and poet. He was the father of Oleh Olzhych, also a notable Ukrainian poet and political activist, who tragically lost his life in Nazi labor camps in 1944.
