The author's inaugural memoir, reflecting on his tumultuous life journey.

Mykola Prykhodko (1904 - 1980) was a Ukrainian author and educator. He held a professorship at the University of Kiev until his arrest by the NKVD in 1938. For three years, he endured imprisonment in a Siberian concentration camp, becoming one of many Ukrainians subjected to unjust detention and torture without trial. Following his release, Prykhodko fled to Germany, where he sought refuge in a Displaced Persons camp. Eventually, he resettled in Canada, where he lived and worked until his passing.

The years following World War II saw a significant wave of Ukrainian emigration, driven by various factors, including the aftermath of the war, political changes, and the desire for a better life. Many Ukrainians found refuge in countries like Argentina, where they established communities and cultural organizations to preserve their heritage and language. In Buenos Aires, Ukrainian emigrants published a variety of books, including literature, poetry, history, and religious texts. These publications played a crucial role in maintaining a sense of identity and connection to their homeland. They also contributed to the dissemination of Ukrainian culture among the Ukrainian diaspora and the broader local community in Argentina. Such emigrant books serve as valuable historical and cultural artifacts, shedding light on the experiences and aspirations of Ukrainian immigrants during this period and documenting the vibrant cultural life of the Ukrainian community in Buenos Aires. They continue to be of interest to scholars, researchers, and individuals interested in Ukrainian history and diaspora studies.
