Pyotr Petrovich Konchalovsky (1876 – 1956) was a renowned Russian and Soviet painter, notably associated with the Knave of Diamonds group. Throughout his lengthy artistic career, Konchalovsky proved to be an extraordinarily prolific artist, having produced more than five thousand works. His body of work reflects a complex evolution of artistic styles. In the pre-World War I period, the influence of Paul Cezanne was distinctly evident in Konchalovsky's paintings. He was hailed as a member of Russia's avant-garde art scene. However, following the war, he attained the status of a Member of the U.S.S.R. Academy of Fine Arts and was honored with the title of People's Artist of the R.S.F.S.R. Konchalovsky's paintings are widely regarded as having made a significant and lasting contribution to the development of Soviet realistic art.
