Arkady Alexandrovich Rylov (1870 – 1939) was a Russian and Soviet Symbolist painter known for his affiliation with the “Mir Iskusstva” movement and the “Union of Russian Artists,” as well as his involvement with the “Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia.” Additionally, he served as the chairman of the “Kuindzhi Society.” While he initially began his artistic journey as a historical painter, exemplified by his graduation work at the Imperial Academy of Arts titled "Assault of Pechenegs on a Slav Village," he eventually shifted his focus predominantly to landscape painting. Despite this shift, many of his artworks retained subtle references to Russian history.
