The 1931 issue of the Soviet magazine "Cultural Revolution" highlighted the initiatives and objectives of the Cultural Revolution in the USSR. This movement was a series of actions undertaken in Soviet Russia and the Soviet Union, targeting a profound reshaping of the cultural and ideological fabric of society. Its aim was to cultivate a novel cultural paradigm in line with the construction of a socialist society, which involved increasing the representation of the proletarian classes within the intelligentsia.

Although the Cultural Revolution was envisioned as a comprehensive plan to reform national culture, its practical implementation often encountered delays and saw significant momentum primarily during the first five-year plans. This has led to debates in modern historiography about the accuracy of associating the Cultural Revolution exclusively with the 1928–1931 period. In the 1930s, the Cultural Revolution was perceived as an integral component of a broader societal and economic transformation, encompassing industrialization and collectivization. Furthermore, this period marked a significant restructuring and reorganization of scientific activities within the Soviet Union.
