Savine describes the first comprehensive account of the Kornilov Shock Brigade, partly edited by the Soviet spy and cavalry officer Nikolai Skoblin, as an extraordinary rarity due to its subject and content.

The Kornilov regiment was formed just before the Bolsheviks took control and was among the first to join the Volunteer Army. It eventually became Denikin's army's most renowned fighting unit, offering him invaluable experience and unwavering devotion.
