A first edition of one of the most critical work of twentieth-century literature. The author intended it to be a satirical commentary on the events leading up to the Russian Revolution and Stalinism and a demonstration of the inherent weaknesses of political and economic ideals. For obvious reasons, the book was banned in Soviet Russia. During the Second World War, printers in the United Kingdom were discouraged from printing it to avoid provoking their Soviet allies.
