N. N. Gusev was a literary historian, biographer, and personal secretary of L. N. Tolstoy. His remarkable literary abilities were noted by Tolstoy himself during his lifetime. Gusev's works earned him recognition as a writer and scientist in Russia and beyond its borders. In 1911, he published "From Yasnaya Polyana to Cherdyn"; 1912, his diary "Two Years with L. N. Tolstoy" was published. He became an editorial board member of the first Complete Works of L. N. Tolstoy in 90 volumes and headed the Museum of L. N. Tolstoy for a long time. Gusev made an invaluable contribution to the writer's creative heritage research.
