In this book, the author describes his memories of life in Russia from a young age until the collapse of the Empire. In it, he gives a realistic assessment of events and apt characteristics of commanders known throughout Russia. Vladimir Nikolaevich Von Dreyer (1876-1967). - Major General of the General Staff of the Russian Imperial Army. He graduated from the 2nd Orenburg Corps, the Pavlovsk Military School, and the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff. Member of the First World War. In 1917 - the chief of staff of the 7th Cavalry Division and the Consolidated Military Corps of General Wrangel. After the October Revolution, he lived in Moscow. In the spring of 1919, he arrived in Yekaterinodar and, from there, went into exile. In exile, he lived first in France, then in the USA, returned to Europe, died in Monte Carlo, and was buried in a Russian cemetery in France. He also wrote a book about the Civil War in South Russia titled “The Way of the Cross in the Name of the Motherland” (Berlin, 1921).
