The first uncensored edition in book form published in the United States in 1912. The collection presents satirical "fairy tales" about Russian life. Perhaps, one of Gorky's most proficient texts, filled with very subtle, good-natured, but deadly accurate irony. The author laughs at Russia's political and social life at that time. The last five fairy tales were written in 1917. A complete edition was published later in 1918.
