The book contains nine lectures under the general title "Vysshaia taktika" [The Supreme Tactics]. They were lectured from November 1928 to July 1929 by the General Staff professor, colonel A. A. Zaitsov in Paris. General-lieutenant N. N. Golovin enjoyed worldwide fame as a military scientist after World War I. He aimed to preserve the military experience of the first large-scale world war and share his knowledge with the Russian military in exile. Grand Duke Nicholas Nikolaevich of Russia supported the opening of the first courses in Paris on March 22, 1927.
