The book documents Stalin's regime, its influence on Ukraine, showing people's struggle against despotic and immoral measures that lead to exile. The book was part of the remarkable Ukrainian print culture that emerged in South America in the 1940s. Over one million refugees could not be repatriated to their original countries and were left homeless as a result of fear of persecution. Thirty-three thousand Ukrainians settled in Argentina after the resettlement of Ukrainian DPs.
