Very important first Ukrainian translation of Orwell's Animal Farm, translated by Igor Shevchenko under the pseudonym John Chernyatynskyy. With Orwell’s preface, written especially for this edition. In the introduction for this edition, Orwell explains his experiences during the Spanish Civil war and his connection to what he describes as "the negative impact of Soviet myth in the Western socialist movement."
Five thousand books were published to distribute among the Ukrainian refugees in the camps for Displaced Persons (DPs) in post-war Germany, but suspecting the books of being anti-Stalin propaganda, the run was seized by the American Military Government in Munich and "two thousand of books were confiscated and handed over to Soviet authorities to be destroyed." (Chalupa, "Orwell and the Refugees."). .
