Maiak [The Lighthouse] No. 1, 2 (Complete Run)

San Francisco: Russian Monarchy Society, 1957. Original pictorial stapled wrappers. Good. Item #194

Imperial octavo (22 x 28 cm). No. 1 (32 pp); No. 2 (32 pp) of mimeographed text. Text in Russian. Some wear to wrappers; small nicks to spine (No.2); overall very good.

A scarce short-lived Russian emigre publication published in California by the Russian Monarchy Society ["За Веру, Царя и Отечество"] in 1957. Some of the contributors whose works were included over the run of the publication include Smerdov, A. V. (Chairman of the Committee), Danilov, M. K. (Committee Secretary), Brodian, N. (Deacon of Harbin), Uralov, S., Lulov, S., Malkov, P., Gulevich, A., and other Russian monarchists.

In the preface to the second issue, the editor states that the magazine received some negative reviews from competitors and “non-patriots” of Great Russia. Despite all this, the editors intend to continue publishing this journal. Perhaps this was the reason that the second issue of the magazine was the last.
