A controversial, essential primary memoir and political critique by Borys Martos (1879–1977), prominent Ukrainian statesman, economist, scholar, and former Prime Minister (Head of the Council of People's Ministers) of the Ukrainian People's Republic (UNR) in 1919. Writing from exile in Munich, Martos provides a firsthand insider account evaluating two critical military-political crises that threatened the stability of the UNR Directorate during the Ukrainian War of Independence: the April 1919 anti-government coup attempt staged in Rivne by Otaman Volodymyr Oskilko, and the subsequent insubordination, arrest, court-martial, and execution of celebrated military commander Colonel Petro Bolbochan in June 1919. Martos defends the state's legal decisions, addresses contemporary historical debates surrounding Bolbochan's controversial trial, and appends primary documentary extracts, including army inspection regulations and published letters from Petro Pevnyi.
