The first monograph devoted to Alexander Porfyrovych Archipenko (1887–1964), the pioneering Ukrainian avant-garde sculptor whose innovations in Cubist sculpture profoundly influenced modern art.
Folio (12¼ x 9¼ in.). Original gray cloth boards; front cover with black lettering within gilt-stamped horizontal bands; rear cover with blind-stamped publisher’s device. Illustrated with 65 black-and-white plates of sculptures, paintings, and drawings; includes one black-and-white portrait of the artist (on glossy stock) and one color plate (on heavier glossy paper), both unpaginated. Printed by Otto Elsner, Berlin. A good copy with light wear along the edges and corners of the binding; mild rubbing to the cloth. The interior is clean, with very light foxing.
