Osnovy suspil'noho ladu [The Foundations of Social Order]

Buenos Aires: 1949. Item #1541

71 pages. 18 cm. Second edition. A very good copy with wrappers lightly faded at the spine and edges.

In this concise émigré treatise, Ukrainian scholar and public intellectual Yevhen Onatskyi explores the philosophical and sociological principles underlying the structure of human society. Framing his discourse in terms of shared existence, coordination, and moral interaction, Onatskyi discusses the meanings of physical, psychological, and moral community, drawing parallels between scientific and social models. The work reflects his broad intellectual background as an encyclopedist, journalist, and member of the Ukrainian Central Rada, and is emblematic of the intellectual ferment among the Ukrainian diaspora in postwar Argentina. This second edition was published in Buenos Aires, a major center of Ukrainian émigré activity following World War II. Onatskyi would later go on to compile the monumental "Ukrainska mala entsyklopediia" in eight volumes.
