New York, NY: Publication of the Ukrainian American Youth Association, Inc., 1951. Item #1518

A documentary evidence of the Vinnytsia massacre, one of the lesser-known atrocities of the Soviet NKVD during the Great Terror. Originally unearthed during the Nazi occupation in 1943, the mass graves in Vinnytsia revealed the scale of executions perpetrated by Stalin's regime between 1937 and 1938, when more than 9,000 civilians—largely Ukrainians—were shot and buried in secret. The volume includes harrowing photographs and a factual recounting of the Soviet repression and the German-led exhumations. It is a significant example of Cold War-era diasporic efforts to document and disseminate information about Soviet crimes, which were suppressed in the USSR.
