This travel-inspired collection of literary essays documents the author's journeys and impressions across multiple continents during the mid-20th century. Drawing upon extensive travels through destinations such as Mexico, Hawaii, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and China, Hanna Cherin crafts a vibrant and observant narrative that blends lyrical prose with cultural commentary.

Hanna Cherin (Halyna Ivanivna Hrybinska-Pankiv, b. 1924, Kyiv) was a Ukrainian poet, essayist, and librarian whose prolific literary career spanned continents and decades. A survivor of the upheavals of World War II and the Displaced Persons camps in Germany, she emigrated to the United States in 1950. She earned degrees in linguistics and library science from the University of Chicago, where she later led the department for international book exchange with Eastern Europe. Cherin authored over twenty-six works, including poetry collections (Chornozem, Vahonetky, Slova), children’s verse, and prose. Her travel writings, notably Idmo zi mnoiu and Znovu idmo zi mnoiu, reflect a passionate curiosity about the world and a mission to interpret it for Ukrainian readers.
