1974. Item #1471

271 pages; 14 cm. With mild wear and foxing throughout.

First edition of the now-classic collection of talks by Father Dmitrii Dudko, delivered in Moscow in 1974. These unauthorized religious discussions were transcribed from audience recordings at St. Nicholas Church near the Preobrazhenskoe Cemetery, where Father Dudko served for over 15 years. The book includes his powerful response to questions on faith, Christianity, and Church life during Soviet repression. It concludes with his “Final Word,” delivered after he was officially prohibited from continuing these talks, and a set of documents related to ecclesiastical sanctions imposed upon him. The edition also contains a notable critique by Aleksandr Knyazev of the Paris Theological Institute, who emphasized the spiritual and theological significance of the text.

Father Dmitrii Dudko (1922–2004) was a Russian Orthodox priest, poet, and dissident whose writings contributed to the religious revival and intellectual resistance in late Soviet society. His bold voice called for a return to authentic faith, reverence for Christian tradition, and moral courage in the face of ideological pressure.
