This émigré publication by Count Stanislav Mikhailovich Tyshkevich (1887–1962)—a Polish-Russian Jesuit priest and member of the Russian Apostolate Abroad—addresses the ideological opposition between Soviet atheism and the Roman Catholic Church. Written in exile in Rome, the work reflects the author’s deep engagement with questions of religion, conscience, and totalitarian repression. Tyshkevich, a prolific religious thinker and writer in the diaspora, was known for defending Christianity in the context of Soviet antireligious campaigns.
