Politicheskie pesni svobody: Marsel'eza, Varshavianka, Pokhoronnyi marsh i drugie [Political Songs of Freedom: The Marseillaise, The Warsawian, The Funeral March and Others]

Petrograd: 1917. Item #1450

16 pages. 17 cm. Original printed wrappers. Light wear and faint stains to wrappers; spine with small splits, but a well-preserved copy overall.

A rare and ephemeral Petrograd imprint from the revolutionary year of 1917, this compact pamphlet assembles a selection of key political anthems that resonated with the Russian revolutionary movement. Among the included texts are the Russian version of “La Marseillaise,” widely sung during the February Revolution; “Varshavianka,” the stirring Polish workers’ song embraced by socialists and communists; and the somber “Funeral March,” which became a staple of political funerals and commemorations. Produced by the modest press of Ia. Krovitskii on Raz"ezhaia Street, this compilation embodies the immediacy and passion of a moment when printed lyrics could serve as revolutionary tools. Set in pre-revolutionary orthography.
