Paris: YMCA-Press, 1974. Item #1423

220, [4] pages: 8 leaves of illustrations. 19 cm. Original publisher’s wrapper designed by A. Raguzin. A good copy with light wear, soiling and foxing.

A commemorative volume devoted to Anna Akhmatova (1889–1966), published in exile and compiled by her close associate and chronicler Lidiia Chukovskaia (1907–1996). Alongside Chukovskaia’s Zapiski ob Anne Akhmatovoi, the book includes Akhmatova’s own autobiographical sketch and previously unpublished poetry by four of her literary disciples: “Traurnye oktavy” by Dmitrii Bobyshev, “Sem’ stikhotvorenii pamiati Anny Akhmatovoi” by Anatolii Naiman, “K 60-letiiu knigi Vecher” by L. Titov, and “Sretenie” by Iosif Brodskii — the latter written on November 16, 1972 and appearing here in print for the first time. A key émigré publication marking the early canonization of Akhmatova in post-Stalinist Russian literature.
