New York, NY: Shkilna Rada, 1962. Kozak, Edvard, illustrator. Item #1167

This 25 cm Ukrainian-language children's book, spanning 31 [20] pages, features text and vivid illustrations aimed at teaching reading through letters, syllables, and simple sentences. Published under the auspices of the Shkil'na rada of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, the book is in good condition, with light wear on the cover and a small handwritten note in the top left corner. The pages are clean, and the illustrations by Edvard Kozak are particularly notable for their charming and engaging style, making the learning process enjoyable for young readers.

Edward Kozak, also known as EKO (1902–1992), was a multifaceted artist whose talents spanned painting, illustration, caricature, writing, satire, and civic leadership. Born in the village of Hirne in the Stryi district, Kozak honed his artistic skills in Vienna, Lublin, and Lviv, studying at the Oleksa Novakivskyi Art School. He gained prominence before World War II for his contributions to Ukrainian satirical and humorous periodicals, laying the groundwork for a prolific career that included book illustration and pioneering work in Ukrainian comics. Kozak is perhaps best known as the visionary behind "Lys Mykyta", a cornerstone of Ukrainian satirical literature.
