Toronto, New York: Association of Ukrainian Writers for Children and Youth, 1970. Kozak, Yuriy, illustrator. Item #1160

Measuring 25 x 17.5 cm with 16 pages of colorful illustrations, this Ukrainian-language children's book is in very good condition, with clean and bright pages. The whimsical illustrations by Yuriy Kozak perfectly complement the poem, which tells the adventurous story of Todirko and his airplane, making it a delightful read for young audiences.

Yuriy Kozak (1933–2000) was a talented and versatile artist known for his work as a painter, illustrator, designer, sculptor, mosaicist, and church muralist. Born in Stryj, Ukraine, and later residing in Clarkston, Michigan, he studied at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, where he also taught. Kozak worked with Andrew Maglia Studios as a muralist and later as a sculptor for General Motors, while contributing illustrations to publications like "Veselka." From 1965, he regularly exhibited in Hunter, New York, alongside his father, Edward Kozak, and his brother, Yarema. His exhibitions extended across the USA and Canada, and in 1988, he was commissioned by the Ukrainian Canadian Art Foundation to create the monumental *Baptism of Rus Ukraine*.

As of August 2024, OCLC records indicate that only two other copies are held at Library and Archives Canada and the University of Minnesota.
