Ivan Mikhailovich Belov (1905–1961) was a distinguished Colonel General of Aviation in the Soviet Air Force. Born on March 7, 1905, in Ozereckoe, Moscow Region, Belov's military career began in 1923 with his enlistment in the Red Army and continued with his joining the Communist Party in 1926. He first gained significant recognition during the Soviet-Finnish War, earning the Order of the Red Star in 1940. During World War II, Belov's rise through the ranks was marked by his roles as Chief of Staff of the Air Force of the Karelian Front and his leadership in the 7th and 8th Air Armies, contributing to key operations like the Stalingrad Encirclement and the Crimean Offensive.
After the war, Belov significantly influenced Soviet military aviation through his leadership at the Voroshilov Higher Military Academy and senior positions within the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense. Promoted to Colonel General of Aviation in 1958, he was decorated with prestigious honors including the Orders of Lenin, Red Banner, Suvorov, and Kutuzov, and numerous campaign medals. His strategic prowess was particularly recognized during the East Prussian offensive. Belov passed away on November 5, 1961, and is buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow, underscoring his enduring legacy in Soviet military history.
