[SIGNED] Personal Recollections of Sophie A. Satina, 1879-1975

[New York, NY]: [1975]. Item #1016

129 pages. Dimensions: 28.5 x 22.5 cm. Text in Russian. The group includes a handwritten letter from S. Satina addressed to friends (Mr. & Mrs. Nicolas Ryshkoff-Carr), expressing gratitude for their visit to Rachmaninoff's grave on March 31, 1973. Additionally, there are two supplementary notes and a letter from her nephews, informing of her passing on February 24, 1975, and requesting the replacement of one of the notes due to an error in the surname.

These recollections belong to Sophie A. Satina, a remarkable Russian woman and the cousin of composer S. V. Rachmaninoff. A talented botanist, Satina studied and assisted at the Higher Women's Courses, and after the revolution, she emigrated to Washington, where she continued her career.

Previously unpublished memoirs, printed in a limited number of copies and distributed to close friends after her death. This makes them a rare and valuable document for Slavic studies scholars, historians of Russia, and bibliographers.

Price: $200.00
