Intermezzo is an impressionistic novel written in 1908 in Chernihiv. The novella consists of 11 parts related to the image of the artist - the participant and the narrator of the image; tells of his spiritual healing when encountering nature. The work deals with the problems of mental equilibrium, complete life, the specifics of the creative process. The novella was written after the events of the Russian Revolution of 1905-1907 in the era of the greatest rampant reaction. Novel autobiographical, and is devoted to the fields of Konon, that were owned by Yevgeny Chikalenko, a well-known Ukrainian philanthropist, who persuaded Mikhail Kotsiubynsky to rest in his estate.

Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky (September 17, 1864 – April 25, 1913) - a Ukrainian author whose writings described typical Ukrainian life at the start of the 20th century. During the Soviet period, he was honored as a realist and a revolutionary democrat.
