Munich-Regensburg: Vydannia Iuriia Iudym-Levkovycha, 1945. Kuznetsov, Konstantin (illustrator). Original illustrated wrappers. Fair condition. Item #140

This octavo-sized book (21 × 15 cm) contains 27 pages with illustrations and is printed in Ukrainian. The wrappers show light wear, with some chipping at the corners and spine.

The book features the first story from the collection "Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka." In the 19th century, this story inspired an opera by Modest Mussorgsky, which was left unfinished by him and later completed by others. The narrative is set against the backdrop of the Sorochinsky fair, a significant fair in Velyki Sorochyntsi near Poltava, Ukraine. Historically held five times a year during the Russian Empire, it faced a 40-year hiatus during Soviet times and was revived annually post-1991 following Ukraine's independence.

This edition was published by Ukrainian Displaced Persons (DPs) under the supervision of UNRRA Team 108 in a German camp post-World War II.
