Yevhen Konovalets has created the most successful Ukrainian political project of the last century - the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Military Organization. He lived for Ukraine, fought for freedom and independence, suffered for his country, and died in an unequal battle with an insidious enemy. He became a symbol of Ukrainian liberation struggle. Poetry of Olexander Oles "Crown of thorns" was written under the deep impression of the tragic death of Evhen Konovalets. Kandyba’s essay on the life of Konovalets came out in 1940 as an underground publication of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists.
